Notes |
The MS contains full-page portraits of Saint Mark (fol. 38v), Saint Luke (fol. 77v), and Saint John (fol. 124v). Both the script and the iconography of this MS point to a Breton origin (accepted in Kat. §184). This MS is particularly close to other codices discussed in the present hand-list: (1) Oxford, Bodleian Lib., Laud Lat. 26, (2) Alençon, BM, 84, (3) Tongeren, Trésor de la Cathédrale (s.n.), (4) Rome (Città del Vaticano), BAV, Arch. S. Petri, D.154. Indeed, Alexander (1985: 270–1) pointed out that 'leurs portraits [i.e., of the evangelists] sont [...] en dépendance de modèles carolingiens exécutés presque certainement à Tours.' |
