Notes

Bischoff's geographical ascription of this section of Orléans 263 (a codicological unit constituted by two quires, one of eight folios and one of ten, continuing in Paris, BnF, Lat. 6683 according to Riché 2004: 21) simply states 'Wahrscheinlich Bretagne' (Kat. §3733, accepted in Pellegrin and Bouhot 2010: 333 and Ganz 2020: 238), a view presumably based on the script and the abbreviations. Other scholars, however, are more inclined to think that this copy of Alcuin's De dialectica was written at Fleury (cf. CMD VII, 493; Marenbon 1981: 178; LF BF719). Moreover, Mostert (LF BF719, based on CMD VII, 493) points out that 'the script shows Italian (Beneventan?) influence' (cf. also CMD VII, 493), suggesting a possible comparison with Orléans, Médiathèque, MS 45 (42), probably written at Fleury in the second half of the ninth century (LF BF460; Pellegrin and Bouhot 2010: 46–7). A fresh palaeographical assessment of this MS is clearly a desideratum.
