Connection with Brittany
Notes

This MS contains the Hisperic poem Adelphus adelpha meter, also occurring, with Latin glosses, in Cambridge, University Library, MS Gg. 5.35; note however that, unlike the Cambridge MS, the Saint-Omer copy contains 13 Old Breton glosses (in this context, it is worth mentioning for the sake of accuracy that Cinato's recent claim that Fleuriot 'found in this manuscript about 50 Old Irish glosses and 300 Brittonic glosses' (Cinato 2020: 260, n. 40) is erroneous, and undoubtedly due to a simple confusion with Paris, BnF, Lat. 10290, which is listed immediately before the Saint-Omer manuscript in Fleuriot's DGVB 5).

Although Bischoff (Kat. §5409) had no hesitation in attributing this MS to Brittany, presumably on the basis of its script and vernacular glosses, it seems at least conceivable that Saint-Omer 666 may in fact have been copied in a Northern Frankish scriptorium from a Breton exemplar (perhaps at Montreuil-sur-Mer or Saint-Bertin? The fact that some of the vernacular glosses show signs of linguistic corruption might indeed lend support to the latter view (cf. e.g. Thurneysen 1890: 89; DGVB 54, s.v. adla(n)uou 'rising tide', gl. Lat. dodrantibus).
