Notes |
Bischoff (Kat. §4983) tentatively suggested that this MS may have been written 'near Brittany', especially on account of the abbreviation for post, which presents a nearly fully closed upward arch attached to the bowl of the letter p—a shape that Bischoff considered to be specifically Breton. To my knowledge, the abundant scholia on the copy of Arator's De actibus apostolorum contained in this MS have not been studied; such an investigation may well be worthwhile, in light of the possible connections with the Anglo-Saxon tradition of glosses on Arator's works. The copy of Arator's text found in this MS is preceded, on fol. 1r, by a strange unidentified text in 'Greek' (or merely in Greek letters?) interspersed with Latin words (glosses?): while on the one hand it is hard to make any sense of the Greek (possibly a cryptogram?), on the other hand among the Latin words the rare terms microsmus (surely for micro<co>smus) and micrologi stand out. Moreover, towards the end of this passage it is possible to read what follows: inburrim eiΘΓΚΙΖΚo (or -Θ) forma accipit KiΛiΗ... aratri; while at a first glance this may sound like gibberish, in fact these words partially match a line from Virgil's Georgics (I, 169): in burim et curvi formam accipit ulmus aratri. The 'Greek' text is followed by a brief excerpt from Bede's Expositio Actuum Apostolorum, XIII. Finally, it should be mentioned that the copy of the Pseudo-Columbanian Monosticha at fols 54v-55r is not listed in the entry dedicated to this text in CLH (§471). |
