The Breton origin of this MS is suggested especially by the occurrence of five Old Breton glosses in it (cf. Gerhardt 1940); however, since this is only a brief and damaged fragment, it is admittedly impossible to be certain. Theoretically, this MS could have been written by a Breton-speaking scribe active at Tours or in a centre of the Loire Valley (alternatively, a non-Breton scribe working in one of those centres could have been copying from an exemplar containing Old Breton glosses). It is nonetheless worth pointing out that Alcuin's grammatical dialogue occurs in other MSS with prominent Breton connections: Saint-Omer, BM, 666 and Paris, BnF, Lat. 13957; it is therefore possible that this text was of particular interest to the Breton ecclesiastical literati.
