This MS contains musical notation of the 'Breton' type, but it was written in Northern Italy (cf. Downey 1998: 187). According to Huglo (1963: 72), the exemplar must have been Breton. However, in light of Rankin's recent considerations about the so-called 'Breton' notation (see the entry for Chartres, BM, 47 in the present Handlist), this conclusion is by no means certain. |
