The presence of numerous Old Breton glosses (cf. Thurneysen and Williams 1938: 290–305 and Fleuriot 1960: 175–83) and the widely documented Breton interest in Orosius's Historiae make a Breton origin probable. Moreover, the fact that this Venice MS shares glosses with other Breton copies of Orosius's Historiae (especially Rome (Città del Vaticano), BAV, Reg.lat.296) suggests that its scribe was copying either from an earlier Breton exemplar or from an insular model (cf. Bauer 2019, esp. pp. 100–4). |
