Notes |
This is the earliest extant witness for the important Gesta sanctorum Rotonensium (a text composed at Redon around AD 870). The Breton origin of these folios (which may have come from a hagiographical compilation, as suggested in Poulin 2009: 87) is not in doubt: indeed, in all likelihood they were written at Redon. For a detailed description of this MS, see Brett 1989: 20–7 (where NAL 662 carries the siglum N). In particular, Brett's palaeographical analysis of this MS highlights the similarity between its script and that of the Cartulary of Redon (Rennes, Bibliothèque de l'Archévêché, MS sine numero), as well as of manuscripts written at Mont-Saint-Michel in the late eleventh century (Brett 1989: 24–6). |
