Notes

The eleventh-century section of this codex is bound to a thirteenth-century copy of the Missal, which replaced the first 44 folios of the older MS. The later codicological unit was likewise written in Brittany, as shown by the calendar at fols 2–6, which contains numerous names of Breton saints (for a list, see ILLB L146, p. 129); as for the older unit, an incomplete mass for Saint Samson occurs at fols 114–15, and Breton neumes can also be seen here (Huglo 1963: 59; Deuffic 2011: 66). The whole MS must have belonged to the priory of Bréventec, a daughter-house of the abbey of Saint Mathieu de Fine-Terre (Pointe-Saint-Mathieu, Commune de Plougonvelin, Finistère), as shown by a detailed note dating from AD 1272, written on fol. 1r, and another one on fol. 30v (cf. ILLB L146, p. 129). However, whether the eleventh-century unit was written at Bréventec or in some other Breton foundation (perhaps at Saint Mathieu?) cannot be determined.
