Connection with Brittany
Notes

This MS contains portraits of the evangelists, except Matthew (fols 44v, 66v, 101v). Deuffic (PMSB 291) points out that the decoration of the canon tables 'rappelle celui des premiers manuscrits de Tours.' EBGB (15, n.1) makes it clear that the attribution of this MS to Brittany is essentially based on the analysis of the iconography (which is particularly close to that of Baltimore, Walters Art Museum, W.1). The attribution to Brittany is accepted in Bischoff's Kat., §29, where the MS is dated to the last third of the ninth century. At fol. 7r the count of forty-two generations from Abraham to Christ has been crossed out. Insular enim at fol. 7r. The word finit can be read, written in Greek letters (with phi for f and theta for t) at fol. 130v (for some Breton parallels, cf. ILLB In4, p. 10, n. 5). This accumulation of palaeographical, iconographical and textual evidence does make a Breton origin probable.
